The 9th Division was involved in heavy fighting in the ETO, fighting in Africa, Tunisia and Sicily. It landed at Utah Beach on Normandy on D+4, and helped capture Cherbourg, then participated in the St. Lo breakout. It fought across France and Belgium and served during the Bulge in the Monschau area. Crossed into Germany at the Remagen Bridge and fought into the Harz Mountains.
