An antique Imperial Russian lacquer papier mache box/ tea caddy, by a Vishniakov factory, marked with an early factory mark under the lid on silver interior background, I could not get a good pick of the mark, but it is clearly readable in life, has double headed Imperial eagle seal. Circa 1880. The tea caddy is barrel shaped, with black lacquer exterior. The lid is decorated by hand painted scene of a Russian troika sled. There is a sled driver and a peasant couple wearing traditional... winter folk attire. Painted over a leaf of silver with enamel paints. Good quality work, great attention to detail. The box has some condition issues. The top lid has been covered with a layer of fresh lacquer some time in the past. There is a small chip on the rim of the bottom section. The picture appears somewhat darker in real life the on the pictures with the flash. Still fully original piece of 19th century Russian lacquer. Will make a great addition to any collection. Size diameter 4 1/2" or 11.5 cm, height 4" or 10 cm. This box comes as a part of large private collection of Imperial Russian and Soviet lacquer which is being listed concurrently.
