WW2 1940 GERMAN U-BOAT NAVIGATION STAR GLOBE w/STANDDESCRIPTION: Offered to you from an exceptional private collection is this WW2 1940 German U-Boat Stellar (Star) Globe with original wood and metal stand. These were used for navigation by German U-Boats, generally reducing the time on the surface and thus making the submarine less vulnerable to detection and enemy attacks. The same piece can be seen on exibit in The Museum of World War II in Natick, MA (near Boston). It is made of P...apier-Mache by the German company PAUL GEBHARDT SOHNE from Berlin. After 1943 the globe was reissued and used by the Luftwaffe and it has a Luftwaffe number: FL23189 where the FL is standing for Luftwaffe, 23 is the code for navigational equipment and 189 is the individual inventory number. It is well preserved for its age and material, shows some wear and tear and the usual signs of aging (please see photos). This globe shows the stellar constellations visible from the Earth.
