Antique Pottery Glazed Parian Ware Victorian Child / Toddler Left Hand Spill Vase 4.5" SEA SHELL
Rare glazed version with turquoise edges on the shell and sleeve ruffles. In excellent antique condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. Porcelain may have small random black cinder specks which are natural flaws from the making. These cinders are internalized into the parian porcelain which were caused from the early kilns that burned wood or coal and often threw-off cinders during t...he firing in the oven-kilns. This characteristic is often considered when authenticating age since the later kilns were fired with gas or electricity and were cleaner. If there are any other minor flaws, they are also natural from the making. Vase may need some light cleaning but we will preserve as is to prevent any damage. Comes as is/seen/made.

Parian ware is a type of biscuit porcelain that was made to imitate carved marble. It was developed around 1845 by the Staffordshire pottery manufacturer Mintons, and named after Paros, the Greek island renowned for its fine-textured, white Parian marble, used since antiquity for sculpture.
