Period: George III c1760.
Dimensions: approx 250mm / 10 inches tall.
Hallmarks for Tudor & Leader.
Condition: Very good, considering age. There are a couple of discreet old solder repairs - to the stem of one candlestick and to the underside of one of the nozzles (see photo 10) - where the stem has been repaired there is a small section approx 3mm long missing leaving it slightly shorter than the other candlestick (see photos 1 & 6 for the best comparison). These repairs are pretty tidy and only noticeable if you look for them. At the same point of the solder repair on the other candlestick, the two sections of the stem have become partially detcached and so the top half rotates about 1mm or less when twisted - again very slight and only noticeable if you look for it - both candlesticks seem structurally sound. Slight lean to both sticks. There are many dings, dents and surface scratches across both candlesticks, some parts of the sconces/nozzles are a little bent (visible in the close up photos) - because of this the nozzles do not slot in fully but can be easily removed. Warm copper tones bleeding through. Patches of black tarnish have built up over time, will come of with a thorough polish if preferred. Wear commensurate with age and use. Notes: Superb and rare pair of early Old Sheffield Plate candlesticks in the style of earlier George II silver examples. Made by Tudor & Leader, they bear the early marks on each nozzle (photo 8). Stunning pair of Georgian candlesticks.
