This auction is for an original OEM 1962 Cadillac parade boot that I don't plan to utilize. Based on my experiences thus far with working on this Cadillac, I believe this would fit all convertibles, series 62 and Eldorado from 1961 through 1964. This is my first experience with Cadillac. I've done a bunch of research myself, but I don't consider myself a Cadillac encyclopedia. I do see notable differences between the 59-6...0 Boot looking at the pictures side-by-side, so I don't believe they are compatible. There are no tags, numbers or identifying information that I could locate. Furthermore, if anyone intimately familiar with this era Caddy has any applicable information they'd like to share, I'm happy to listen.
In any event, these were in the trunk of my fairly well optioned 1962, Series 62 (convertible obviously) that I recently purchased. I've looked around online a little and can't seem to locate much in the way of pics or info on Parade boots for '62 cars, so please do your homework to be sure if these will work for you and I will describe to the best of my ability. I have no reason to believe be that these are not original to my car. They appear to wear the original Sandalwood Beige paint and white vinyl as matches my interior/exterior from the factory. The condition of all three panels are excellent. There is one minor crack approximately 1/2" in length in the center panel that is an easy fix. The original latch hardware is all in fantastic and operational shape. The factory chrome is very clean and presentable, as is. I feel light polishing would make the boot befitting of a show car. The factory paint is not exactly fresh, but what you'd expect of parts from the trunk of a nearly sixty year old unrestored car. I hit them with a quick cleaning just to show condition. The vinyl is intact, functional, but stiff. Naturally, all of the above would be restored to suit whatever they're going on regardless...
To offer a brief history, I recently purchased this car from a family member of the gentleman from Virginia who owned and loved the car from 1963 until his passing about twenty five years ago. Upon his passing, the car was purchased from the estate by his nephew with best intentions to do a complete restoration. Unfortunately he never got too far with the project and the car remained virtually untouched in his garage until I purchased it last fall.
