You are bidding an Confederate Cavalry Officer in a dramatic pose leading who I modified into the commander of the 43rd Virginia Cavalry, Colonel John S. Mosby! Ordered by General Robert E. Lee, he chose Mosby to lead a group of irregular Cavalry to harass the Union Army in the Valley shortly after the death of Stonewall Jackson at Chancellorsville. Mosby's Rangers, or Mosby's Raiders, or just Mosby's Men became the most successful Partisan group in the Confederate anna...ls, and he was often referred to as the "Gray Ghost" due to the Rangers ability to disappear into the Valley after a raid, and not be found! They often captured supplies, once a Union General, and always were a thorn in the side of Union Army in Virginia!
The figure started as an Italeri Confederate cavalryman, who I customized with a new head and slouch hat to create this rendition of Colonel John S. Mosby leading his men in the Virginia countryside! He also wears the top cape of a great coat, so it must be an early morning attack in the spring or autumn!
There were four figures in this series, and I used this one to represent Mosby, which I have done on three of four occasions in the last fifteen years, but he is a rare one, so this is a chance to own a one of a kind conversion of mine!
I've hand painted over 21, 300 soldiers for collectors in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and even Japan in the last twenty years! My toy soldier background began as a child on my first trip to Gettysburg, over 50 years ago, and I suit up in my complete Union Artillery sergeant's uniform to teach the Civil War to my wife's 5th Grade class each year!
