Up for sale is a beautiful 80s Sandoz submariner diving watch, keeping excellent time and with all functions working properly.
These vintage examples have a much nicer design and are higher build quality than the modern ones. Early on, Sandoz took many design cues from the Rolex submarine...r without feeling like a direct copy. In some sense many consider this the 'most authentic' sub homage, but it's an excellent watch in its own right (no submariner features a day-date movement!)
Lumed indices and Mercedes hands with lollipop sweep seconds, sapphire crystal, and rotating unidirectional 60-click bezel. Marked 100 Meters water resistant though I wouldn't trust a vintage watch for what it's rated without pressure testing first.
Getting very hard to source all-original vintage examples such as this one, especially with signed crown and bracelet. The crystal has some minor flaws, and the bezel is showing noticeable wear and gives the watch a rugged look. The pip is missing lume, which seems to be the case for a lot of my vintage watches. The indices and hands have aged with a desirable creamy patina. I've included a zoomed in shot showing off this texture.
High quality original stainless steel case and bracelet, and powered by the ETA 2836-2, the day-date version but otherwise identical to the ETA 2824 behind so many iconic dive watches such as my Tudor Black Bay. This watch is also less bulky and noticeably thinner than comparable pieces. A more subtle presence and considerably less chunky than many divers. Reference number 1958-D-70-8
Automatic winding with 25 jewels and 28, 800 beats per hour, plus on this one the day wheel can be set to English or Chinese characters--very cool!
38mm across not including crown, and about 42.5 long lug-to-lug. Bracelet fits up to just over ~6.5'' wrist.
