Affinity (1970) is the first album by Affinity, produced by John Anthony, with a cover design by Marcus Keef.Affinity were an English jazz-rock fusion band, active from mid-1968 to January 1972. Their first album, Affinity, is now one of the rarest and most collectible Vertigo pressings of the era, with a cult status among collectors.Affinity played their first London show at the Revolution Club in Bruton Place in Mayfair, West End on 5 October 1968. One of the gigs they played at the time was broadcast on BBC Radio Jazz Club. Ronnie Scott, heard a recording of the show and subsequently agreed to manage them. He also agreed to give them regular bookings at his world-famous jazz club.From this point on they had extensive live work in London's club scene, on the college circuit and also with the mainstream media of the time. They toured in Europe and Scandinavia, playing festivals and music venues. They appeared on TV spots, including Disco 2 which was the forerunner to The Old Grey Whistle Test. They released an eponymously titled album on the Vertigo label in 1970.They received many rave reviews, most for the band, but some for individual members, and from Derek Jewell of The Sunday Times, who commented "Naiff is already a virtuoso, soul-style, and the whole group is probably the best new thing heard in the jazz-pop area this year." Billboard Magazine described Naiff as "a musician of great promise". Linda Hoyle also achieved great renown as a singer.

A very rare complete STEREO label pressing of AFFINITY. A COMPLETE pressing in stunning condition, that plays brilliantly from start to finish.
ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING: Yes – brilliant! Great sound quality throughout. AFFINITY is a complex and varied collection of music, and is also a relatively sensitive piece of vinyl, and hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Coconut Grove.' This pressing sounds great, with crystal clear sound throughout. There is certainly no dominant or even particularly noticeable interference, and NO hissing, crackle, loud pops or clicks. It look and sounds Unplayed and it plays with TOP sound separation and clarity! The channels are clean and unstressed. The record plays with staggering power, with near silence between the tracks. Rich and detailed sound with massive dynamics and unique mix and production. I will give a detailed account below:
"I Am and So Are You" bursts in with great clear sound, no pops or clicks and virtually NO static to be heard. Amazing clean run in grooves, followed by amazing perfect audio. Leading into "Night Flight", both tracks playing with super clear audio with no pops or clicks at all. "I Wonder If I Care as Much", a track that so often has lots of interference and surface sound, plays great. Really great clear audio, a superb example with just a single light pop. There is barely any detectable background static at all, and thats incredible rare. This is a great performance.
"Mr. Joy" also plays with great clear sound, and again virtualy no detectable static, you can hear sounds on this pressing that are virtually always lost. This is an amazing performance. Perfect, clear vinyl sound.
Side 2. begins with"Three Sisters", and all the complex layering is clearly defined. Again, great clear sound, no pops or clicks and virtually NO static to be heard. Amazing clean run in grooves, followed by amazing perfect audio. "Coconut Grove", another relatively quiet track plays really well. I noticed a light static tic in the middle of the track, and there are no loud pops or clicks. "All Along the Watchtower"is still heavily layered, there is some no static and the layering is crystal clear. This is such varied and delicate track, with such a range of sound effects and quiet areas, its usually heavily overshadowed with static and even distortion. Not hear, it plays absolutely beautifully, with super clear sound, and no loud pops or clicks, very little detectable surface sound, just great, crystal clear audio. Amazing clear sound, there are no light static tics, no pops and no clicks. Even in the long outro there is minimal surface sound.
Superb sound, every track has been tested and I could find no sound blemishes. Wonderful TOP audio, there is NO distortion, NO sticks or jumps what so ever, and little static between the tracks.
The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals which come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten. Brilliant first mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact. A TOP all round example of this great vinyl. A great all round example of this classic vinyl, this is a great audio pleasure. I doubt it could ever be bettered..

THE LABELS These 1st Press Vertigo labels are in spectacular condition, with no sticker marks or writing, and no spindle wear. There are barely any spindle traces, perhaps one tiny ultra faint lines on side 1. only, and that's barely visible. A stunning set that would be very hard to better. Graded at NEAR MINT to MINT.
THE RECORD A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing, this record looks and sounds barely played. The record has great shine and has no scratches. In daylight looks largely unmarked, and only under a spot light can you see a few ultra light handling marks. Grades at NEAR MINT to MINT.
VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING: Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.
THE COVERA genuine rarity, this cover is also in great condition, bright and clean with a few light creases. There is little light scuffing to the corners of the spine, and none to the other outer edges. There is certainly no obvious ring wear on the front or rear. The opening edges are very square and un frayed. The back cover is nice and clean, with a little light ring wear. The spine has veyr little wear and is fully readable.The inside Gatefold is clean and shows some light marking. A great example of this rarest of covers.Graded at VERY GOOD PLUS to EXCELLENT.
THE INNEROriginal increasingly rare Vertigo inner sleeve in stunning condition. It is a super clean and bright example. It has No seam splits, NO splits, very little fraying at the top. There is a light impression of the record and a few light creases. A great example.

RARITYA complete 1st Label pressing of AFFINITY in any kind of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. This was a record made in a tiny run and they are extremely rare.The cover is hard to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is a superb example.
