ShuzoIkeda (b. 1922- d. 2004) PORTRAIT OF GIRL, No. 404, 1960, woodcutprint, signed in white ink,
Numbered #12/30 in pencil, image 8 x 11 ¾”, fullmargins, frame 13 ½ x 17 ¼” with glass;Theart of Shuzo Ikeda is very dis...tinctive. Children or young women with large eyesholding a pet or flower - depicted in stylized images. That's what a typicalwoodblock print by Shuzo Ikeda looks like. Shuzo Ikeda's art is typical for thepost-war economic booming years of circa 1960 until 1985. BiographyShuzoIkedawas born in 1922 in Akita prefecture (died 2004). In 1945 he graduated fromTokyo Higher Normal School. After a few years of teaching art, Shuzo Ikedabecame a member of the artist association Nihon Hanga Kyokai, and ShuzoIkeda turned to woodblock printmaking ('moku hanga')as a professional full-time artist. ShuzoIkedais especially good in integrating the texture of the woodblock grain into hisprint designs. The Feelings of an EraTheart style of Shuzo Ikeda represents in my view the spirit of the years of thelate 1950s until early 1980s. It was the period of a prosperous post-wareconomy and of great cultural changes in the industrialized Western nations, inthe way of life, music and fashion. Inmy view, Ikeda's images "breathe" this era pretty much. If you happento belong to a generation that was born before 1950 maybe you may have the samefeelings when looking at the artist's prints. * In many museum and private collections worldwide.ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE LET ME KNOW!GOOD LUCK!
