An EXTREMELY RARE 1958 Cleveland Indians Plastic Baseball Coin Bank. This bank was given to customers of The Firestone Bank of Akron, Ohio for either opening a new account, or just being a good customer. There are many excellent players whose facsimile autographs are found on the bank, including Rocky Colavito, Gene Woodling, Mickey Vernon, and Vic Wertz. There is also Orestes Minoso, better known as Minnie Minoso. Minoso started his baseball career in by playing three season in t...he Negro Major Leagues. While Minoso had a terrific MLB career, he is best known to fans my age for playing in three games for the White Sox in 1976 at age 50, and two more games for the White Sox at age 54 in 1980. This makes Minnie Minoso the answer to the question, “Who played at least one game in Major League Baseball in five different decades?” Then there is Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Lemon who won 20 games or more in a season six times, lead the league in wins three times, complete games fives times, and innings pitched three times, all while missing three full seasons to World War II. Lastly there is Herb Score, one of the greatest that never was. In his first two years in MLB (1955 & 1956), Herb Score was an all-star both seasons winning 36 games and losing only 19, while leading the league in strikeouts both seasons. In his 5th start of the 1957, 23 year old Herb Score was hit in the face by a line drive off the bat of the Yankees Gil McDougald, and although Score would return for the 1958 season he was never the same player as before the injury. “Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, It might have been”.
