Oneof the shortest lived MLB teams the Houston Colt .45s played in the NationalLeague from 1962-1964. The Houston Colt .45s played in horrific conditions inthe Colt Stadium the players had to be careful as rattlesnakes would often takeup residence on the field. It was the home of the Houston Colt .45s. It wastheir temporary home from 1962-1964 while the Astrodome was being built. Thestadium consisted o...f an uncovered grandstand stretching from foul pole to foulpole and small bleacher stands in right and left field. One baseball annualpublished just before the 1962 season referred to it as "a barn-likething". It is best remembered for the horribly hot and humid weather (andattendant mosquito population) that had necessitated building the first domedstadium. In 1965 Judge Roy Hofheinz became the sole owner of the franchise anda stadium was built the Colt .45s moved into their new domed stadium theAstrodome in 1965. The Colt .45s were renamed the Astros.
