Alabama Heirloom Vintage Quilt late 1800s Civil War Era Handmade from hundreds of scrap pieces, with a Dunlop Beauty Flour sack backing. The quilt front is made up of 1-1/2 inch squares, half of which are a 9-patch using 1/2 inch squares. The back is made of flour sacks. The printing reads, "Dunlop Beauty" "Beauty Flour" and "perfect pastry patent." I researched the flour mill to help verify the date the quilt was made.
This was made in Carrollton, Alabama by my great-grand relativ...es around the turn of the 20th century. We rescued it from the family home years ago and I've been storing it ever since. Now, none of the youngins in the family want it, so a collector who appreciates the really old Southern American quilts is next in line.
It's about 73x78 inches. There is some fading and staining on the back as you can see. One tear on the edge, otherwise just a few blips here and there. It's pretty amazing for being about 119 years old at least, not even much of a musty smell. It lives in a non-smoking home with pets in the vicinity.
