Delicate Antique Victorian Wedding Dress Gown Silk Beading Pleats TraIn Classic
Item History & Price
This gown is made of a soft, supple silk georgette, which made it lightweight and allowed it to flow softly as the bride moved. It has a beaded net yoke and collar, trimmed with a beaded border and a lovely band of fine French Pointe de Gaze lace. Some of the beaded trim is loose and could use a bit of tacking on the collar.
The bodice has ...the classic silhouette popularized by the "Gibson girl". The skirt has delicate, inventive trim made of silk organza, pleating on the skirt and a box pleated trim on the hem.
Don't you just love the sleeves? Lots of detailed work on them. In some of the photos I put tissue paper in the bottom of the sleeve to show its shape. The natural flow of the sleeve can be seen in Picture 9 with the tissue paper removed.
It is lined in silk taffeta with a double ruffle at the hem to support the skirt. The silk georgette is in good condition with a few stains, but the underskirt is shattering. Silk taffeta rarely withstands age and this petticoat is suffering. The ruffles are in good shape, but the underskirt is fragile.
The bodice of the gown is also lined in a fine, silk taffeta, and that is also shattering.
Luckily, the dress itself is intact. It's a wonderful example of fine workmanship and innovative style.
A wonderful garment to add to your antique clothing collection.
