It's my pleasure to offer at auction a Superb, Unused 1930 PFLUEGER No.1555 "SAL-TROUT" 100-YARD SKELETON FLY REEL WITH THE SCARCE ORIGINAL MAROON BOX. A tough model to find in the early box, especially in this condition. This example represents the finest I've seen. The No.1555 "Sal-Trout" was introduced by Pflueger in 1919 and would sell through 1941. They were used for both fly fishing and, because of the size, could also be used for freshwater trolling. Because of the Inspector's s...tamp on the bottom of the box, we know this reel was built in June of 1930. Back plate is stamped "PFLUEGER Trade Mark SAL-TROUT Made In U.S.A.", which surrounds the "Bulldog" logo. Under the foot is stamped with the "100" yardage mark. In gun metal finish, this reel comes equipped with strong clicker, removable spool with bird cage arbor and a counterbalanced handle with black celluloid grip. I've added a photo of an original listing for this reel, taken from Edw. K. Tryon's 1929 catalog. Reel is in Extra Fine condition, with no evidence of use. Any faint surface wear is likely storage-related. Needless to say, it displays beautifully. Works perfectly and is extremely balanced and smooth-running. Put up in the scarce original maroon box, which is in Fine condition for these. Shows only light corner and edge wear and one tape repair to the box bottom. It is crisp and solid, with a full front label that is correctly marked for the reel. A beautiful early combo from Pflueger that would be very tough to upgrade.
