Known as the "Swiss" Dinar the 1986 Iraq 25 Dinar is a historical bank note and a must for any collection of banknotes or historical memorabilia.
In 1986 the Iraqi Dinar was a strong currency trading over 3 times the value of the US Dollar. Iraq used high quality Swiss printing on cotton fiber paper to produce this note. The 1986 Iraq 25 Dinar had a value of over $75 and represented an ...Oil Bearing Nation with a strong military leader.
Following the 1st Gulf War the Iraqi Dinar's value plummeted due to economic sanctions. Iraq could no longer use Swiss printing for the Dinar and began printing inferior replacement notes with little security features. Continued over-printing, counterfeiting, war, and economic sanctions dropped the value of the Dinar. After the second Gulf war a new Dinar was printed in 2003 removing all Saddam Hussein images from its currency.
The 1986 Iraqi 25 Dinar was the last one printed with Saddam wearing a military uniform. All notes thereafter have Saddam wearing a suit to portray a more political image rather than a military leader. The 1986 Iraq 25 Dinar is a collectible memory of the Gulf Wars, Iraq, a devalued currency, and the infamous Saddam Hussein!
