This superb "Spratts" "Puppy Biscuits enamel sign dates from around 1913 and would have been attached outside a shop. Spratt’s were a pet food company said to the world’s first manufacturer of meat based dog biscuits. The first factory was established in 1860 in London. Spratt's was one of the most heavily marketed brands in the early 20th century.The sign has the inevitable enamel losses and nibbles to the edges, there is a missing patch of enamel to the body of the sign by the s...mall 'S' of Spratt's, there are also the usual scuffs, stains and scratches that you would expect from an item of this age and use. We have tried to show the condition in the photographs.The stylish white and black shadow lettering and red background still has a good depth of colour and a fair gloss.The bottom of the sign has "Spratt's Patent Ltd, London. Spratt’s were a pet food company said to the world’s first manufacturer of meat based dog biscuits. The first factory was established in 1860 in London. Spratt's was one of the most heavily marketed brands in the early 20th century.The sign has the inevitable enamel losses and nibbles to the edges, there is a missing patch of enamel to the body of the sign by the small 'S' of Spratt's, there are also the usual scuffs, stains and scratches that you would expect from an item of this age and use. The bottom of the sign has "Spratt's Patent Ltd, London. E.C." and "448/713"It measures 75 cm (29 1/2 inches) by 49.5 (19 1/2 inches).
