An authentic German dark blue glass Christmas ornament, made in Germany in the late 1800s. It's a grape cluster shape, 3-1/2 inches high (not including the cap) with a circumference around the shoulder of 8-1/4 inches. Kugels are colored within the glass, not painted or finished on the outside, and the mercury silvering is on the inside. The glass is a magnificent deep cobalt color. The interior silvering lightens the glass color. You can see the darker shade of the glass near the bott...om and around the cap where the silvering has degraded. The baroque five swirl with balls type brass cap slides a bit but the ornament hangs securely. For being well over 100 years old, the kugel is in wonderful condition.
