Item History & Price
For those who like to know about the artist: (from A Reference Guide to Miniature Makers Marks):As an art majorgraduate in Newark New Jersey, Jean Tag turned her interest inart toward education and acquired the necessary degree and certification toteach art. She resigned after 2 years of teaching, to stay at home to raise afamily with her husband. During the fifteen years spent at home, she directedher talents to oil painting, completing many commissions of historicallandmarks in northwest New Jersey. When returning to teaching in 1966 she had to refresh her skills and many ofthe crafts once learned. It was the reunion with the potter's wheel thatcaptured her special interest. During the national Bicentennial preparation in1975, she participated in many community events demonstrating the earlyAmerican craft of wheel thrown pottery. Space and time were limited, so bynecessity pieces had to be small, so small in fact that some observers wonderedif they were for a dollhouse. This also revealed the market for 1 inch scalechina for miniature collections. This became Jean’s new pursuit. The journey toperfect this craft and produce what collectors wanted has seen no end. Afterbeing indoctrinated into the world of one inch scale, the possibilities werecountless. Researching periods and styles of china became intriguing, butresearch and experimenting with clays, glazes, colors and paint becamecritical. Jean’s blue and white pieces of Chinese export design, as well asdelft and Meissen, became her trademark. All of Jean’s wheel thrown pieces are of white talc claywhich has been kiln fired, decorated with underglaze, refired, glazed, andfired again. The addition of gold trim or China paint requires a 4th firing. Approximate Dimensions: Pitcher: ⅞" H x ⅞" W x ⅝" DBowl: 7/16" H x 1⅛" W
