Handleless ceramic bowls of this size and shape were used for drinking tea at breakfast, sometimes known at the time as "Breakfast Basins", but looking very similar to Waste/Slop bowls of the same time period. For purposes of identification in ...my listings, I determine which is a Waste/Slop bowl and a Breakfast Basin by the base and top rim.
Breakfast Basin - fluted top rim & more curved/softly designed base
Waste/Slop Bowl - None or very slight curve to the top rim & straight base.
It is not always possible to assign a particular role to a piece as they may have been made as dual-purpose piece.
Flow Blue is a highly-collectible, antique blue-and-white china. The vintage dishware was most popular during the Victorian era.
The Adams family had potteries in Staffordshire as early as 1650.At that date, the two brothers, William & Thomas had separate ventures in Burslem.
Such family activity has continued to the present. William Adams & Company, with large potteries in Tunstall is managed by members who are the 11th & 12th generations of direct descents from the original 17th century Adams of Burslem.
