Vintage Sterling Silver Money Clip
Vintage Sterling Silver Money Clip Click image to enlarge Description This very large frame has a sterling silver surround which is set on a varnished blonde wood back with strut stand. The surround slopes downwards to the glass and is sl...ightly concave with a decorative motif in relief to each corner. This silver is stamped ‘Peru 925’ for sterling silver and, having personally tested it, I will fully guarantee that it is made from silver of this grade. It is also stamped ‘MV’ which will be the maker’s mark. It still has it’s original retail sticker which is for a Plateria (silverware company) called ‘Valasquez’ of Miraflores, Peru and I suspect this may also be the maker. Please note that in Spanish, the word ‘Plata’ means silver and not silver plate. I would think this piece is no more than 20 or 30 years old.
This very impressive frame is usable but it has suffered some knocks during its life. Along the bottom, there are two dinks to the inside edge, a nail head sized dent and some small dints near the outer edge. To the left-hand side, there are a number of small dints along the outside edge and an area of denting to the middle. The top has 4 dinks to the outside edge, 2 nail head dents to the front section and a 1cm long line bruise. The right-hand side has an area of tiny dents to the middle and some small kinks along the outer edge. I’ve shown all areas in the magnified photos below and, although noticeable, each aspect is small in comparison to the size of the frame. The wood is in good order with just some light grazing where the clasps turn. Please note that the clasps are quite free moving at the moment but once the frame is padded out with a photo and some card or paper they will tighten to the back and hold it securely. The stand is securely fixed to the back but there is a wobble to the hinge. The glass is in good order with no chips or cracks. All aspects are shown in the photos below and reflected in the asking price for this sizeable piece.
