American Waltham P. S. Bartlett Model 1883 W/ Huge 14K Gold Case, Runs
Item History & Price
Its case is marked "warranted & US Assay" along with a 14K mark. It acid tests as 14K and looks fantastic. Its a hunter style case with boxed hinges and a fair amount of engraving present. The case perimeter and hinges are decorated while the front has a small waterfront village scene. There is a lone sailboat in the harbor that is still very visible. I would guess the watch wasn't carried often because most of the engraving is still very crisp and defined.
The movement has 15 ruby jewels with a full back plate and Church regulator. The dial is brilliant white porcelain with some very fine, hairline cracks. I only dusted the dial face but didn't use any wet cleaners. Just a few puffs of air, nothing else. There is still some residual dust on the face so a proper cleaning is needed. The fine cracks might even lighten with a cleaning. The hands are blued with zero rust visible.
It’s overall weight is 4.712 ounces. (133.6 grams) I’ve weighed a few other 18s movements i own to get an average weight of this without taking apart the case. So far, the average is about 71 grams of empty case weight. The whole crystal/bezel assembly weighs 5.5g and the glass is on the thinner side.
