A very nice copy of this iconic title. Written while Orwell suffered severely from tuberculosis and published shortly before the disease claimed his life, the novel is a work “of hectic, devilish, claustrophobic intensity… nightmarish in the telling” (Clute & Nicholls, 896). In 2005, the novel was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005. Red top-stain partially retained. Internally very nice. Light spotting to first few pages, owners name stamped to front endpaper, and very small bookstore plate affixed to bottom right corner of front pastedown.
