Description: - This sterling silver goblet was commissioned by Lincoln Cathedral as a replica of the original chalice that is held in the Cathedral Treasury, with a photograph of the entry in the Goldsmiths' records d...isplayed alongside. The Cathedral example is made by a maker whose mark was I over M. this baffled antiquarians for years. It was only the work of Mr. Charles Oman that discovered a fine by John Morley of Lincoln in 1573, from the ledgers of the Goldsmith's Company London, that linked as near as possible the maker of this silver chalice.John Cussell of Grantham was commissioned to carry out the work of producing two hundred strictly limited edition goblets. Each would carry the 1977 Queens Jubilee Hallmark together with Certificate of authenticity, numbered and signed by the Dean of Lincoln at the time, Very Rev. the Hon. O. W. Twistleton–Wykeham-Fiennes. Limited edition no 141/200, hand planished with gilded interior.
