Scarce first edition by James Whitcomb Riley (1849–1916), the famed American poet, writer, and best-selling author, of this work which is heavily influenced by his mother, who during Riley's formative years often told him stories of fairies, trolls, and giants, and read him children's poems. Bound in the publisher's creme colored stiff paper boards, which are ...embossed with decorations, with gilt-stamped titles and top edge gilt. Contents lightly toning. In the scarce white dust jacket (with titles only printed on the front panel), which is somewhat soiled, with some small chips and tears and some mild toning along the spine and extremities.
