This is an antique parian ware bust depicting the Rev. Charles H. Spurgeon which stands 7 1/2 inches high, measures 4 1/4 inches across the shoulders and it dates to c. 1878. This parian bust was made by Robinson & Leadbeater and the firm's impressed initials are to be found on the back of the shoulder. The Rev. Charles H. Spurgeon (1834 - 1892) was an English Particular Baptist preacher who was highly influencial amongst Christians ...of various denominations and known as the "Prince of Preachers" - his signature is to be found on the front of the bust. John Adams-Acton (1830 - 1910) the well known British scultptor originally modelled this bust and "Copyright John Adams-Acton 1878" are impressed on the plinth at the back. The condition is good with no splits, cracks, damage or restoration but for accuracy in my description I will point out that some age-related dirt has gathered in a couple of folds of the jacket lapels but nothing that detracts in any way. This antique Robinson & Leadbeater parian bust, depicting the Rev. Charles H. Spurgeon by the British scultptor John Adams-Acton, would make an ideal gift or a great addition to any collection.
