Today we are happy to offer for sale a rare 1800s Americana John Seibert signed jacquard coverlet! This rare and hard-to-find woven cotton jacquard coverlet blanket is a masterpiece of craftsmanship and design hand-crafted by noted American weaver John Seibert, Sr of Lowhill Township, Lehigh County, in Pennsylvania. The coverlet features the rare feature of being double signed by the creator: each lower corner is signed "Made By John Seibert Lowhill T. Lehigh Co. PA" with the right corner also being dated "1849". This large (8 feet long!) coverlet is intricately and expertly woven in an ornate damask geometrical pattern, with a center elongated octagonal medallion featuring a bordered floral design. The coverlet features several decorative geometrical and floral borders ending with tri-color fringe on three sides and woven on a separate loom and attached by hand. The coverlet features black, blue, red, yellow, and cream contrasting colors, creating a classical Americana colonial look. Coverlet presents beautifully and is in good antique condition, with wear and patina commensurate with age and use. There are few areas of loss to woven fabric; few areas with repairs, two un-repaired holes, small spots/stains, and a few areas with partially loose trim. Item sold as-found.
