Of bellied circular form. Twin serpent handles with duck necks! Handsome planished finish both inside and outside the porringer. Stands on circular foot....Weight: 12.6ozt Diam. 20cm Ht.8.5cm
The inscription reads - "Peter Averell Daniell from His Godfather, Bolton Eyres Monsell 17 January 1910"
PROVENANCE:Bolton Eyres Monsell (b1881 d1969) had a distinguished naval and parliamentary career. 1st Lord of the Admiralty in 1931 and created 1st Viscount Monsell in 1935. His daughter Joan, a photographer of some note, married the famous author and traveller Patrick Leigh-Fermor.Viscount Monsell's godson, Peter Averell Daniell (b1910 d 2002), was also his nephew and thus cousinin-law of Patrick Leigh-Fermor. Peter spent his career in The City, being for a time The Government Broker. He was knighted for his services in 1971.
