Vtg Chinese Celadon Porcelain Lidded 10” Ginger Jar Lotus/Flower Design *SIGNED*
ESTATE FIND!! Up for auction here is a fine old, large Chinese celadon green porcelain lidded ginger jar. The ginger jar has lightly embossed designs on the sides featuring alternating floral and Lotus patterns, surrounded by lots of fancy scrolling. A single flower is prominently featured on the top of the lid.
Appears to be very high quality porcelain with detailed decorations on all the surfaces.... Signed and marked “China” on the bottom. I do not speak nor read any Chinese language, but I saw these signature marks listed on a similar vase (which featured a dragon pattern) on eBay which was dated 1900 to 1940... I have no way of knowing precisely how old this is so please take a good look and decide for yourself. Glare spots are from the lights’ reflection and not on the item’s surface.
It is a large and heavy, well-made piece! Measures approximately 10” tall by 8 1/2” wide at its widest point. Base diameter is approximately 5 inches, and the lid diameter is 4 inches. Weight is 4 pounds, 13 ounces unpacked...likely well over 6 pounds as shipped.
Condition is excellent for its age. No cracks, no chips, no nicks, no repairs and the color is great. I do notice a couple glaze pops from the manufacturing process, the largest of these which is shown in the close-up photos.
***A rare item and a must for any collector! Fresh to the market from an estate collection. This is the only Chinese piece I have for sale, and once it sells, it is gone for good!***
When purchased, there were remnants of some fragrant, powdery spice at the bottom (ginger?), which I wiped out with a damp cloth. However, the winning bidder will probably want to give it a more thorough cleaning.
