Estate fresh from an old Boothbay Harbor residence this auction is for a vintage (guessing 30s) big game or tuna rod. This is one of several related items I am currently selling and, like the reels, the rod doesn't have any manufacturer’s marks either which makes me wonder if perhaps they were all made locally here on the coast of Maine.
As the auctioneer told it, the equipment belonged to a husband and wife duo who fished together their whole lives. He then went ...on to say they’d fished with Hemingway! Who knows? I just thought they were really cool. I have included a picture of the couple which I was unable to buy but did get a picture of on my i-phone. I can’t be positive but the rod could be one of the two in the photo. I am not a fishing equipment expert by any means so please bear with my description, look closely at all the images and feel free to email any questions you may have.
The rod measures approximately 85” in length and appears to be in very good shape for something used on the ocean 80-90 years ago. The roller guides and tip are undamaged and the wrap all around the rod is in very good shape. The handle of the rod from below the the green wool felt down detaches and the insert end is bronze. There is some alligatoring of the finish on the handle as well as expected wear in the area of the reel seat. No makers marks or marks of any kind whatsoever were found on the reel. Again please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have and be sure to see my other reel and rod auction.
Shipping is a rough estimate as I list this on a Sunday night. I will update any changes but I will always ship the best most reasonable rate.
