This is a nice old Nickel plated Manhattan brass student oil lamp. Three patent dates 1876-79. The base and the rod are brass metal clad and nickel plated. It takes a round wick which is still available today. There is a portion of the old wick left in but it is stuck down. The green cased shade with the rolled edge and the chimney are likely original as they both have factory flaws common to the period. Another factory flaw in the shade is that the top is tilted and not parallel... to the bottom. The lamp has the original nickel finish and it is blotchy. The nickel on the base actually is worn to the point that some brass base metal is exposed. The shade has a large chip on the bottom rim and a smaller chip on the top rim. The chimney has a minor chip on the top rim. Lamp is 12" wide 20-1/2" tall. Another Bygone Antiques great find!
