Air Vice-Marshal G.A. Ballantyne uniform. Director General RAF Dental Services from 1943-1954. Arthur Gordon Ballantyne was born in 1900 and served with the RNAS from 1917. He served with 8 Squadron RAF in 1918 and was wounded and decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross. Qualifying as an army dental surgeon in 1923, he received a permanent commission in the RAF in 1930. Ballantyne served as honorary dental surgeon to King George VI from 1945 - 1952, and Queen Elizabeth II from 19...52 - 1953. Promoted to Acting Air Commodore in 1944, he attained the rank of Air Vice-Marshal in 1952. This tunic was likely worn daily as the buttons are well worn from polishing.
