Vintage RAF Squadron Leader’suniformTropicalissue. Probably mid-1960s.Lookslike it has never been worn. This original uniform looksnever to have been worn. It is crisp, clean and completely unmarked, and thereare no signs of use at all to things like the buttons, buttonholes or belt. Itis in “warm weather” or “tropical” light fabric in the usual pale khaki or sandcolour. The epaulettes have the insignia for a Squadron Leader. I believe, incidentally, that this same... uniform design was in use throughout the SecondWorld War, so this one may be suitable for re-enactment purposes (best todouble check that for yourself though). I can’t date the uniformprecisely – there is no label with an issue date as there sometimes is onmilitary uniform. It has “Queen’s Crown” buttons so must be post-1953. The bestclue to the date though, is the medal ribbons, of which there are two. Both areGeneral Service campaign ribbons, issued for active service in minor conflicts. The first is the ribbon that was in use from 1918 – 1962. The second is thepost-1962 ribbon, which was issued for several campaigns before it was phasedout in 2007.The fact that the original owner of this uniform had both ribbonsand assuming – say – a twenty year military career, suggests that he would haveleft the forces by perhaps the mid-1970s at latest, so I think mid-late 1960sis a reliable guess. I will do my level best topost the uniform to the winning bidder in the pristine, pressed condition thatit is now in but please bear in mind that it is very likely to come out of the parcel with atleast a few creases. If you live near enough to North Dorset, you are very welcome to collect it in person.
