Here is a beautiful old oil on canvas by Bella Barsi, a Swiss artist born in 1890 who is known for depictions of village scenes in Hungary in the early 1900's. His works have been sold by significant auction houses, such as Christie's in 2001.This painting depicts a family of geese entering a stream, framed against the thatched roofs of a quiet Hungarian village. White and red poppies dot the foreground riverbank in the shadow of an old tree, under a vibrant old-world sky.The painting ...is housed in a lovely ornate wood frame, which measures approx. 43" x 30.5" in size. The frame is free from major issues but does have minor chips and cracks due to its age.There has been some debate on the personal history of Bella Barsi, and fortunately this painting, due to a descriptive tag on the back, lays the questions around the nationality and birth date to rest. It reads:"Born in Switzerland 1890, his talent was outstanding already in his early youth. As a young man he went to Paris, Rome, Budapest and in the suburbs of this city he was so thrilled of the beautiful countryside that he settled down there and lives mostly during the spring and summer in the part of the country, where he finds the inspiration to paint such lovely scenes. Being very conservative he works in the manner of the 19th century and even the people who like to furnish their rooms in modern taste show much appreciation for his paintings combining them with their own tasteful modern pieces."This piece is offered for local pickup or shipping via UPS. Due to the size and fragility of the piece, a flat shipping rate via UPS of $250 is offered, which includes insurance. If there is a difference between the listed shipping rate and the actual shipping rate, it will be refunded to the buyer, minus packaging costs.Local pickup terms: Buyer agrees to pick up painting in West Saint Paul Minnesota, before 8 a.m. or after 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Weekend hours and some weekday business hours are available by special arrangement only and specific daytime (business) pickup hours are not guaranteed during the week (again, seller is free weekday evenings after 5:30). At time of pickup, buyer agrees to sign receipt acknowledging pickup was made, and present government issued photo ID.
