This set of wooden Japanese hair accessories belonged to my client's great great aunt. She was an American exotic dancer in the Orient prior to the turn of the 20th century and traveled extensively throughout China, Japan, and the Philippines. All four pieces are pristine. The circular comb holds a pony tail and is quite an amazing feat of carving to make the very fine teeth, which are amazingly intact. Some say the forks are also hair accessories, I'll defer to your expertise ...... they've been traveling together as a set for 123 years so I didn't have the heart to break them up now. They do work well as hair picks. I believe the hair picks are made of bamboo, I can't be certain of the combs - possibly teak?
