The label says US Army and then, probably, Air Force or Air Forces, but that part is not readable. From that detail, we date the parka to 1947 or earlier, in spite of the 053 readable on the contract number.
The name of the maker is unreadable, but it was clearly "something" Sportswear.
The name of this garment is Type B-9, parka ...or flight jacket or pilot jacket or similar, we are not sure what is the true full military name.
The lining of the hood is reddish wool, nice color, but stained inside, and the lining of the jacket itself is alpaca fabric.
The name on the back is Alcoke. It is very old Anglo-Saxon name that appears as early as the 13th century in Derbyshire and Cambridgeshire in England. We have found no records with that name associated with the Air Force in the 1940's, but we did do only a superficial, simple search.
The size is small. Actual measurements when flat on a desk:
- 24" across the chest, pit to pit;
- 26" from shoulder seam to edge of sleeves;
- 20" shoulder to shoulder across the front of the parka;
- 33" from collar seam to hem along the back.
It weighs 4 lbs un-boxed.
