Very Rare! Old Chinese Wise Man Hand Carved Soap Stone StatueVintage Carving of Chinese Wise Man Shou Lao God of Longevity!Very good condition. No damage. No cracks or chips. Comes in 2 pieces the statue and the base it sits on.
In checking with a local antique dealer his estimate of this item was that is was most likely hand carved in the 1800's.
Shou Lao was the god of Longevity. One of 3 gods. Fu, Lu, Shou....
The Sanxing, who are Fu, Lu, and Shou, or Cai, Zi and Shou, are the gods of the three stars and the three qualities of Prosperity, Status, and Longevity in Chinese religion.These icons are thought to date back to the Ming dynasty when the gods of the three stars were represented in human form for the first time.They are sometimes identified with other deities of the Chinese religion or of Taoism.
