Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:67916 | Maker: native made in Nepal for British gent |
Material: mixed |
The blade is hand forged and in typical 19thc kukri style, the spine is thick at 1/4 inch and the b...lade is flat ground, it is made from a good laminated carbon steel and the lamination shows very well on one side of the blade but the other is clear of any real signs, this is typical of kukris and having etched any number in my time I see Nepalese native work here in this blades construction, there is also no cho - thumb prick on this kukri which surely says it was made for a non native Gorkha or Nepalese. The blade is good and chunky and is still sharp, no damage that is visible other than the one small ding on one side of the blade near its tip that could easily be polished out, I will do this if the buyer would like it done at no cost but have left the kuk as found because people tend to like them that way.The hilt is constructed in typical western military style like a bayonet in shape, it has jigged hardwood scales a brass ferrule and a heavy and thick filed steel guard, at its pommel end there is a revolving lanyard loop ring that is joined to the end of the tang through the iron plate pommel cap, through the lanyard ring it would have had a loop of leather or cord that the user would pass his hand through when using the kukri to stop any chance of losing grip in working '' up the jungle ''.The sheath is a very simple one of leather and canvas in typical British or western style, inside are 2 flat pieces of timber that the blade slides in between that are not glued in place and move when the kukri is sheathed to accommodate it, the top holding strap is a simple loop that fits over the guard when it is sheathed. There is some damage to the sheath and I will gladly put a canvas patch inside it to fix it up at no cost but again I have left it as found because it is then in original condition.A very rare beast to be seen these days as not many of them were made custom like this for a westerner, something for the collector of kukris whi likes high end pieces that are quality native made. Please do offer on my starting price if you would like to own it, no serious offer will be turned down and this kukri deserves to be in a good collection for sure.size is 16-1/4 ins in scabbard - sheath, out is 16 ins, blade is 11 ins to guard, hilt is 5 ins inclusive of guard. There are no losses or looseness to any of this kukri and overal it is in fine condition and could still e used today, still quite sharp to.ALL SALES ARE FINAL WITH NO RETURN OPTION BUYER MUST COMPLETE PAYPAL PAYMENT WITHIN 48 HOURS OF THE AUCTION ENDING ''WITHOUT EXCEPTION'', I WILL NOT PUT UP WITH NON PAYMENT IN MY STATED TIME AND IF PAYMENT IS NOT RECEIVED WITHIN THE STATED 48 HOURS THEN AN INSTANT NON PAID ITEM CASE WILL BE OPENED AGAINST YOU, THIS IS NOTHING PERSONAL AND IS ONLY DUE TO BAD EXPERIENCES IN THE PAST WITH NON PAYERS.
