THIS IS A VERY LARGE AMERICAN SHIP'S TELESCOPE MADE OF SILVER, WHICH WOULD BE GORGEOUS POLISHED, BUTI'VE ALWAYS BEEN TOLD TO LEAVE THEM ALONE.  IT HAS VERY CLEAR OPTICS AND POWERFUL.  I WOULD SAY IT ISCIRCA 1775/1785.  THE LENS COVER AND THE HAND GRIP ARE COVERED WITH BLACK PIG SKIN.  THE PIG SKIN HASSLIGHTLY SHRUNK.  SEE PHOTOS.  SIZE IS 44 1/2" X 2 3/4".
