What a truly rare find! Weishar Glass purchased the Moon and Stars mold, from L.E. Smith so that they could create limited edition pieces from this iconic pattern. Originally, created in the 1800s, this pattern, originally named "The Palace" was created. It was said to be Abraham Lincoln's f...avorite patterned glass and was also collected by the late Kate Smith.
L.E. Smith is probably the most well known producer of the Moon and Stars pattern. Weishar Glass Company proceeded to reintroduce the pattern with certain pieces and sets. These reproductions are now just as collectible as the originals. Part of the reason for this is the variance in which the recreated the pattern. The only alteration to the mould was the addition of the Weishar signature. They added various colors of glass including bringing back Vaseline glass for some pieces. This set, in particular, is extremely rare as it was produced in their Vaseline carnival glass. What this means that you get the iridescence of carnival glass while also being able to place these pieces under a black light and having them glow bright neon green. Weishar also made each piece, that they reproduced, limited in quantity ranging anywhere from 75 pieces to 300 pieces. This particular set, according to research, was limited to 200 sets because of the unique Vaseline carnival glass and the rarity of the full size water sets, original and reproduction.
This set is the full size set and is in pristine condition. The miniature sets, in this pattern, are easily found, in a variety of colors. The full size set was produced in Vaseline carnival glass only. This stunning set does not appear to have ever been used beyond as a display set. This set was obtained at an estate sale for a collector.
The pitcher is a 32 ounce pitcher that stands 8 1/2 inches at the tallest point - 7 1/2 inches tall where the top water line would be. It is 7 1/2 inches long from end of spout to end of handle with a rim diameter of 5 inches.
Each (of the 6) tumbler stands 5 1/4 inches tall with a rim diameter of 3 3/8 inches.
There are no scratches, cracks, chips, damages/flaws or repairs to any of these pieces. This set, as mentioned, is extremely rare and in mint condition.
