(ca. 1860) Penn's Treaty medalet, Lovett's Historical Series #1. Brass, 31 mm. Choice Mint State. Reeded edge. A beautiful example of this popular medalet by Robert Lovett, Jr., struck in Philadelphia as part of a series that ended up commemorating just Penn's Treaty with the Indians, Washington's siege of Boston, and the 1812 battle between the U.S.S. Constitution and H.M.S. Guerriere. The design was based upon Benjamin West's famous painting, shoehorned... by Lovett into a tight space but still showing remarkable detail. !!
