Authentic Civil War Confederate D-Guard Bowie knife with original leather sheath & provenance. This knife has been in the same family for over 150 years! It has never been offered for sale and is totally fresh to the collector market. The knife was taken from a Confederate soldier at the Battle of New Bern, North Carolina, March 14th 1862 by Captain William Sackett of the 11th Connecticut and was given to J. L. Wilder before Sackett’s death at the Battle of Petersburg (incorrectl...y stated as Fredericksburg in the family letter). The knife was handed down through Wilder’s family to his great grandson Earl Hutchings, now in his 80’s, who sold it to me a few years ago. Included is an old hand written family letter, which notes Earl, and I will also include a letter from myself stating that I obtained it directly from Earl and the family. The knife measures over 16” overall with just about a 12” blade. The blade is nicely chamfered/filed along the spine and has a good edge with no chips. Hand forged with stag handle and excellent patina throughout. The handle itself is slightly loose within iron the guard. Leather sheath is typical Confederate style with angled belt loop. Small hole at the very tip with some period restitching along the seam. This is the best Confederate knife I have ever owned and is absolutely 100% guaranteed authentic. FREE SHIPPING!
