Collectable, Rare Antique Letter Scale For Rowland Hills Penny Postage 1839

Very rare in the World Market this "The Post Office Letter Weight" was produced, as the reverse side of the balance weight says "For Rowland Hills 1839 Plan of Penny Postage" which commenced with the issue of the "Penny Black" postage Stamp. This example has been in my family since the mid 1800's and used in shops with Post Offices in New Zealand until the 1940's.As can be seen in attached photos the wonderful inscriptions on the reverse say, Around the rim:"REGISTERED No 1 PURSU...ANT TO 2 VIC. CH 17. FOR H HOOPER. 12 AUG. 1839. Central is: "FOR ROWLAND HILLS PLAN OF PENNY POSTAGE" and below " SILVESTER & CO 27 STRAND.The front side says "THE POST OFFICE LETTER WEIGHT" surrounding the Royal Coat of Arms.Known as a Bismar type of scale, this particular version is rarely seen intact and in good working order on the market and represents an opportunity to a serious collector or Museum to own something historically important and now hard to find. Currently I cannot find another complete example on the world market! I have reluctantly decided to sell this Scale, with known heritage, as I am not a collector of similar items and it deserves to be in a serious collection. I have reduced the price by AUD$200.00 but will go no lower and will keep this scale if the current price is not achieved.Will post worldwide registered for small charge as shown, extra insurance if required will be negotiated.
