HighlyGilt Illuminated Arabic Manuscript. GoldIlluminated Complete Medium Size KORAN, Dated. About 171 leaves (342 pages); size: 13.4 x 21 cm; 21 lines to a page, inthin, clear, elegant and uniform naskhī script, in black ink, on beige paper. The text is vocalized throughout. There isone handsomely illuminated page in the beginning. All headings of suras are written in gold. All verses are separated by gold discs. All pages are ruled in several lines... in gold, black, and blue. All the lines of allpages are separated by gold lines, which give the pages a lovely goldlook. The divisions of the Koran are marked withbeautiful and colorful gilt medallions on the margins. There are tens of such divisions. The recitational marks are indicated in redthroughout. The style of calligraphy, the decorations, and the illuminationsindicate that it was written in Persia. There is a note in pencil onpage 2a which reads: “1095 Musa Ibn Ahmad.” It is very likely that this is a possession entrydate, which is very usual in Islamic manuscripts. The Islamic date of 1095 correspond to 1683AD. Recent quarter morocco and marbled boards. The last two leaves are slightly affected by dampness, which cause a fewwords to be faded, and therefore hard to read, but no loss of text, otherwisein excellent condition.
