This Hardy's "The St. George" fly reel measures 3 3/4 inches across and has "The St. George Reel, Size 3 3/4", Made By Hardy Bros. Ltd., Alnwick, England, Brit. Pat. No. 2424" impressed in to the back plate.The ribbed brass foot is sturdy and well attached, as is the ebonite handle. The agate line guide has are two hairline cracks and "Hardy's Pat." impressed in to it.The rim regulator screw works fine.The reel revolves well with a good smooth action with a constant check and the two... screw release latch works well. There is no play in the reel when the spool is rocked.Internally, the reel is stamped "J.S.", these are the initials of the gentleman who made the reel, James Smith, who worked for Hardy's between 1908 - 1960. The spool is stamped "5".The reel has retained much of its' original paint finish, however, there are some areas of loss, mainly, around the handle and the rims, as well as the usual scratches and scuffs that you would expect from the years of use.
