Mercedes-Euklid (no relation to the car company) made very high quality mechanical calculators from 1907 until 1970. After their initial model was introduced in 1907, they wasted no time developing and introducing new models. By 1913 they were introducing the models 7 and 8, which were actually their 9th and 10th models, as the first two weren’t in the numbered series. Models 7 and 8 were very successful thanks to having fully automatic multiplication and division.&...nbsp; The models 7 and 8 were so successful that models 9 and 10 didn’t come out until 1924. The model 9 had sliders for number entry, model 10 had push buttons. Based on its serial number, 11653, this model 9 was made in 1928.
This calculator works very well for addition and subtraction, which was all I was able to test as I do not have the instructions. Clearing works perfectly. There is a bit of stiffness in the operation of the calculator, which is no doubt caused by old dried up grease and oil in the mechanism. As with nearly all the old mechanical calculators I come across, it could use a cleaning and oiling.
This is a very heavy mechanical calculator at just over 29 lbs (13.2 kg). Please ensure that you are comfortably seated before reading the cost of postage.
