Selling is a 7 3/8" X 9 1/2" VintageOriginal Double-Weight, Linen-backed glossy photo with borders of ROSE HOBARTfrom her best-known film, the 1931 film, "DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE". ROSE HOBART was an American stage and filmactress. Born in 1906 in New YorkCity, she began her career as a stageactress where, in 1929, one of herbest-known roles was as Grazia, in "Death Takes a Holiday". Her first film role was the part of Julie inthe first talking picture version of Ferenc Molnár's "Liliom", madeby Fox Film Corporation in 1930, starring Charles Farrell in the title role, and directed by Frank Borzage. Sheco-starred with Fredric March and Miriam Hopkins in Rouben Mamoulian's original1931 film version of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde".In 1931, ROSE HOBART appeared in a B-movie called "East ofBorneo". In 1936, Surrealist artist Joseph Cornell, who bought a print of themovie to screen at home, became smitten with the actress, and cut out nearlyall the parts that did not include her. He also showed the film at silent filmspeed and projected it through a blue tinted lens. He named the resulting work "RoseHobart". ROSE HOBART often playedthe "other woman" in movies during the 1940s, with her last majorfilm role in "Bride of Vengeance" (1949).During the 1950s she was investigated by theanti-Communist Tenney Committee, landed on the Hollywood blacklist and wasdenied acting work for years. She diedin 2000 at the age of 94. Photo is in Very Good Condition with minimal handling wear.
