It is a stencil of a Conn (Pan American line) 48M. The serial number on this horn is P19, xxx. I am told that it dates to c.1924. It is stamped "L" for low pitch, the desired tuning for contemporary use.
This horn i...s being sold as is for parts or restoration. It is not currently in playing condition. It would need an overhaul to be made playable. Actually, I think someone had started an overhaul, because when I got this horn it was in pieces, with all of the pads, corks, etc. removed. I re-assembled it (without pads and such) just to check that everything was there. There are no missing keys, but there are some missing screws. Actually they might be lurking in the bowels of the case, because all the parts were loose in there when I got it, but I'm not going to rip it up looking for these pieces. It is missing one hinge rod screw (from the high F key), and a few additional rod screws are broke (at the slot). It is missing one pivot screw (there is a bad replacement that doesn't quite work), and a few others are bent. Most of the grub screws and flat spring screws are missing. Not all of the springs are installed, but some are included. The body is in generally good condition. There are some dents on the bow and bell, and the bell/body brace is pushed into the back of the bell slightly. The neck is in good condition with no pull down, although the posts have been resoldered. The keys are in good shape, but the rollers are not turning. The silver plate finish is almost fully intact. Again, there are no pads installed in the keys, and all of the corks and felts have been removed. This could be restored, but it would require a full overhaul. Otherwise, it could provide valuable parts for restoring other vintage horns. The neck alone is worth the BIN price!
This horn comes in a vintage Conn hard case. The case is in fair condition. It is solid, and the exterior is in decent shape. The interior is well worn, and it has a mismatched replacement accessory compartment installed, but it isn't attached very well.
There is no mouthpiece, nor any other accessories included with this horn. What you see is what you get!
