1911 Carlisle Indians Football teamI found this Eastman Kodak postcard, photo November 1911 in the pages of an 1895 Bible that I also have listed on eBay. The Bible came from holdenville Oklahoma and Jim Thorpe was born in Stroud Oklahoma. Only 50 miles apart!1911 ORIGINAL, Extremely Rare EASTMAN KODAK RPPC photo of the C...arlisle Indians Football Team. Photo taken after Carlisle University beat Harvard University 1911. Pictured on the photo postcard are Legendary Player/Captain JIM THORPE and Immortal Coach POP WARNER. Still thought of today as the world's greatest all-around athlete Jim Thorpe and the coach who we still name or Little league football teams after Pop Warner. Besides Jim Thorpe and Pop Warner there are pictured two more College Football Hall of Fame players: Gus Welch and William "Lone Star" Dietz.
The Last postcard like this sold for $422 dollars at auction almost 6 years ago. Since that auction more research has discovered the rareity of this piece and has estimated less than 5 exist! There are no full creases anywhere on the card except a small one in the far lower right corner. It is about one half of an inch long starting at the bottom right corner running up to the letter L in the word Hensel at the lower right corner. There are a few other bends throughout the card but not full creases. Also in the lower right corner, running up about halfway on the white border, is some discoloration. It looks a little tan in color, I'm not sure if it's from sunlight discoloration or from a substance. One little spot of tan discoloration slightly above halfway on the white border on the left side of the postcard. There is a pen/pencil impression that is on the card located right above the box that list the players names. It is not written on the card but it looks as if someone wrote on a piece of paper on top of the card and made an indentation of letters written in cursive visible on the card although it cannot be seen by looking straight at the card but if you turn the card sideways and let the light reflect off of the card you can see the writing. It seems to spell out the letters s o c r s. The corners of the card are slightly rounded but still not too bad. The back of the card for the most part has the same color throughout the card but there are several spots of discoloration. I'm not sure if it's from the camera taking the postcard or sunlight or some kind of liquid damage such as water damage or coffee spills maybe even tobacco stains, cigarette burn marks, etc. Please look at the photos very carefully when you are deciding the condition of this postcard.Please message me if you need to see any other photo angle or view.Shipping: I ship all items that I sell within one business day purchase .
