PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE BIDDING!
Up for auction is a beautiful, vintage USA version of the SHOGUN COMBATRA DELUXE SET w/ BOX and INSTRUCTIONS from 1979, made by Mattel in Japan. Toy was never played with, only put on display inside glass case from 1979 to 1983, then packed away in storage.
I got this toy for Christmas back in 1979, so I am the original owner. Funny, but my parents had this Combatra shipped to our house from MACYS, and it arrived without ...any protective wrapping! The Postage is still on the original box, and you can see that it arrived on Nov. 21st, 1979. There is also a MACYS price tag on the side of the box! I didn't know Macy's sold these back in 1979. Anyway, Shogun Combatra is in great shape for his age. PLEASE LOOK CLOSELY AT ALL OF THE PHOTOS AND READ MY DESCRIPTIONS FOR DETAILS!
Mattel Shogun Combatra Deluxe Set breaks down into five sections. The sections are as follows:
1. BATTLE-JET (HEAD) : Paint on face/head section is still nice and glossy. There is a tiny paint chip to the right middle of the "Y". Yellow windshield still opens up cockpit section. Decal "Y" on top has small corner coming up. The rest of the decals are clean and secure. The plastic back end tail section is in great shape and comes with four yellow missiles.
2. THE BATTLE-CLASHER (UPPER CHEST): Paint on body is still clean and glossy and in great shape! Decals saying "Com-Battler Battle-Clasher" on front chest are in great shape. There is some slight red paint loss along the edge of the back red area by the back cockpit. The two fists shoot off well, and come with a giant blue claw, chrome drill, and open hand! Back red and white plastic section is also in great shape; decals are clean and secure.
3. THE BATTLE-TANK (BELLY) : The one issue here is that the rubber treads have dried out over the years and have fallen apart. I am including what I have. Other than that, the middle chest "Battle-Tank" section is in great shape. The chrome sticker on the front of his belly is nice and clean, and still secure. There are other decals on the sides of the tank legs that say "Battle-tank", and those are in great shape. There are two other chrome decals with Japanese writing on the bottom of the wheel section, and those are in great shape as well. The little yellow round turrents in the back are in great shape, and still fire the missiles well! Comes with six little white missiles. The front plastic "pinchers" and "extended arms" still work well and are clean and firm. The back chrome radar unit is also in great shape.
4. THE BATTLE-MARINE (LEGS): The issue here is that I don't remember how to remove the legs from the feet, and I was afraid of breaking something, so I've kept the legs and feet together for safety reasons. The die-cast metal legs are in great shape, and the chome, red, and blue paint on the legs are still pretty clean and glossy. There is a small section on the left side of the blue portion of the leg by the "vents" that has a few small paint "chips" there, but they are very small, and there are a few "chips" just below the left kneecap. The chrome of the legs does have some slight "scuffing", but is still pretty shiny. The white guns on the back of the legs fire a pointed blue missile, and there are four blue pointy missiles included. The plastic yellow & white section is complete, and decals are clean and bright. The side guns both fire blue torpedo shaped missiles, and work great. There are four torpedo missiles included.
5. THE BATTLE-CRAFT (FEET): The feet are in pretty good shape. The one issue is that the left foot has a problem with the firing mechanism. It seems like a spring has come out of the firing cannon on the foot, and needs to be put back in. The loose spring is included. The paint on both feet is still clean and glossy, but there is a small "nick" of red paint loss on the top left foot, and on the back corner in the white section. The right foot has a few "nicks" of red paint loss on the front of the red section. These are very small, and not very noticeable. The firing mechanism on the right foot works well. There are four chrome rockets (I think there are supposed to be six), and two small chrome laser cannons that go in the compartments on the sides of the feet. This also comes with two yellowish "power packs", two black plastic "coils" or fuel lines which connect from the power pack to the small chrome laser cannons. Finally, there is one small screw missing on the bottom of left foot, but it does not affect the figure.
WHEN ALL OF THESE PIECES ARE PUT TOGETHER, COMBATRA STANDS OVER 12 INCHES TALL!
Combatra set also comes with the large rubber "Strap" or "Belt" that is supposed to keep Combatra together. I never needed it, as I basically had him stand alone on display. Combatra is made of lots of die-cast metal and plastic. He also comes with the original INSTRUCTIONS! Toy was made in Japan.
The box is in really good shape, but it does have some wear around the edges. Also, there is some brown packing tape on the sides which was put there when it was mailed to my home. There was a shipping label on the front but was removed nicely. The colors and graphics on the box is still pretty bright, but please note that it does have wear. The box does NOT come with the Styrofoam or cardboard inserts! I will pack up all of the pieces securely in bubble wrap.
I have tried my best to describe all issues that I noticed on the toy. Again, I never played with this toy! I took him out of his package and he was then displayed for four years. Any issues may have happened either due to age or by being placed in storage.
